Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate

Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate , a strong acid cation exchange resin powder. This is a pharmaceutical grade product which is used for the treatment of a specific medical condition.In certain cases there can be a build up of potassium in the bloodstream which is not removed by the kidneys. The function of the resin is to reduce and control, where necessary, the potassium levels within the body. The U.S.Pharmacopeia where it is listed under the name Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate.

Calcium Polystyrene Sulfonate


Calcium polystyrene sulfonate is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient in bulk complying with the British and Japanese Pharmacopeia where it is listed as 'Calcium Polystyrene Sulfonate'. Chemically, it is a non-solvent, powdered, strong acid cation exchange resin in calcium form. Calcium Polystyrene Sulphonate is normally used to reduce serum levels of potassium and to remove excess potassium from the body in patients with hyperkalemia associated with anuria or severe oliguria. Calcium polystyrene sulfonate can also be useful to control blood potassium levels in patients requiring dialysis or in patients on regular hemodialysis therapy.
